About

Meet Dr. Edward Y. Margines

Welcome. I’m Dr. Margines, I have a psychology practice here in Newport Beach. My clinical work includes children, adults and couples. For whomever it is coming into therapy, it is my first task to get acquainted with the person and to understand why they have decided to seek therapy. I have found that a person is generally the best judge of when therapy is the right option for them to pursue. Perhaps you have tried things your way, and gotten the advice of others, but you are still not as happy, calm or productive as you wish to be. Therapy is the space where we can find what is getting in the way of you doing or feeling the way you want. Unlike advice, which uses a “one size fits all” model, therapy takes the person into account first as well as throughout.

Whether an issue is big or small, my belief is that a person is the best judge about when it is time to come for therapy. Along with this decision is the fact that finding a therapist who represents a good fit it its own challenge. I like to have a brief (10-15 minute) phone conversation with a prospective client so that we can both decide if and how we can best collaborate in therapy. Figuring out what is in the way to achieving the goals you have and results you want is a key component in the beginning of treatment.

Taking from both Cognitive and Psychodynamic disciplines, I employ what is necessary to collaborate with each individual client. The first session is an intake where I get a history of you and the issues you are facing. For busy individuals I do have evening appointments available. My office is located on the first floor and is handicapped accessible

Credientials

“In the United States, the doctoral degree is generally recognized and accepted as the education credential for license eligibility to practice independently as a clinical psychologist. There are master’s degree programs, however, some of which are preparatory for doctoral training. Additionally, each state has requirements for licensure. A summary of those requirements can be found in the Handbook of Licensing and Certification Requirements for Psychologists in the U.S. and Canada, which is published by the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB)” (APA.ORG Licensure Information).
